National Congress of Interventional Pediatric Cardiology – 2025

A full-day national congress on interventional pediatric cardiology was held today, 19th August, Saturday, at the Dhaka Regency Hotel and Resort, organized by the Kids Heart Foundation.
A large number of interventional pediatric cardiologists from home and abroad, along with pediatricians, adult cardiologists, and pediatric cardiac surgeons, also attended the congress. World-renowned pediatric cardiologist Sir Shakeel Ahmed Qureshi attended the Congress as the main attraction and received a lifetime achievement award from Prof. Saidur Rahman, special assistant to the chief advisor of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He shared his experience of the journey from a beginner till today. Every speaker gave emphasis on prioritized treatment facilities for children with congenital heart disease. They recommended opening pediatric cardiac programs in every district-level hospital so that all the patients across the country could come under the coverage of treatment. Currently treatment facilities are available in few hospitals of Dhaka only.

A good number of scientific papers were presented by renowned pediatric cardiologists from home and abroad, and participants effectively discussed various issues. A live workshop was organized where live demonstrations of various new technologies were transmitted directly from the cath lab under the proctorship of Dr. Shakeel Qureshi and Dr. Shivakumar. Three training hubs were organized to train on mechanical ventilation, central lines, and echocardiography. About 50 trainees were trained under the leadership of an experienced teacher.

The second day of the workshop will be a live transmission program from the catheterization laboratory, where various interesting cases will be operated on. Participants will observe the whole procedure from the conference hall.
